Homegrown....
The imagery used in these scarves began with photographs I took in nearby streams and brooks. In bringing this project to life, it was important to me that it stay as close to my roots as possible. It would have been less expensive to send my digital files to China for printing and sewing, but I grew up here in New Bedford, home of Wamsutta Mills. Having spent countless hours in those brick buildings that once housed thousands of sewing machines I just couldn't send this project overseas. My fabric was printed in New York on silk specially treated to absorb ink jet colors and then sewn in New Bedford.
Printed on shimmering 12mm silk charmeuse this scarf has deep and rich tones of magenta, khaki and green. It drapes beautifully and is 7"x 72". The imagery comes from Persian Shield plants Strobilanthes dyerianus grown in my garden.
All of my scarves are printed in the New York and sewn in New Bedford.
